ALEXANDER C RHIND (1821-97) American Rear Admiral. Performed a number of highly hazardous individual exploits during the Civil War, in particular at Charleston, SC, April 1863, and at the first attack on Fort Fisher, 1864. ALS, signed "A C Rhind", 3pp, April 19 (ny), 8vo, New York Club embossed stationery, to Fred Steele, nice content. In part, "...my first engagement of any consequence was in the attack on the defences of Charleston on April 7th 1863 - The Iron Clad fleet under Admiral [Samuel] Dupont on that day made an unsuccessful effort to destroy the forts and works defending the city. The next engagement of consequence was the firrst attack on Fort Fisher...which had no result owing to the desertion of B[enjamin] F Butler with his command..." VG. $200-300
