Approaching them objectively, he always recorded the exact appearance of his plant specimens: substance, surface and detail. The six Renger-Patzsch photographs included in this sale were made for Die Welt der Pflanze (The World of Plants), conceived by the publisher, Ernst Fuhrmann. In 1924, Renger-Patzsch, regarding these botanical photographs, said: "[I am] forced to look, as it were, with the eyes of insects and to make their world [my] own" (Renger-Patzsch, "Das Photographieren von Blüten," DEUTSCHER CAMERA ALMANACH, vol. 15, 1924, p. 105).
