Bierstadt estate 1917<BR><BR>Throughout his career, Bierstadt traveled into remote areas of wilderness with his sketching equipment to make studies that he would later use in his New York studio as the basis for his larger paintings. Albert Bierstadt traveled in Europe over the spring and summer of 1896 and was in Lucerne, Switzerland during the month of June. While working on-site, Bierstadt preferred to draw in sketchbooks or on easily transportable sheets of paper, generally no larger than 13in. x 19in.<BR><BR>Franklin Riehlman: One of the most satisfying objects in the sale.
