AL CAPONE`S OAK TABLE
386. AL CAPONE'S OAK TABLE A rare, handsome Capone relic, a large circular oak table owned and used by Capone and still bearing an ink stain caused by Capone in a fit of anger. The Empire style table bears a 48" round top and stands 29" tall, with a most attractive, intricate checkerboard-style ebony inlay along the top and four legs. This table is accompanied by a copy of a 1996 letter of provenance signed by Paul West. It reads, in part: "...The inlaid circular Empire table that has always sat next to the [barber] chair is somewhat ornate and dates between 1880-1890's. The table has inlaid work all around it...There is an ink spill in the center that was done in a fit of anger by Mr. Capone. They were both removed by the same person and have been together ever since...They were together through the reign of Mr. Capone in Chicago in the early Twenties...The table originally had leaves [not present]...I certify the above statement to be true as told by my grandfather Charles Elliott. He received the item directly from Mr. Mann, who removed them personally. He was Capone's driver for several years...". A terrific relic, perfect for the rec room...$3,000-5,000
