AL CAPONE`S NIGHT STAND
387. AL CAPONE'S NIGHT TABLE A terrific Capone relic, a table owned and used by Capone personally as a night table in one of his brothels! The light burled oak veneer table measures 48" x 26", overall height 29", the top supported by two pedestals which in turn are supported by a smaller oval shelf with four small legs at bottom. The table is accompanied by a notarized letter of provenance which reads in part: "...This piece is said to be the only furniture that Al brought with him to Chicago from New York. It originated from the saloon-brothel run by Johnny Torrio and Frankie Yale. Yale let Capone have this piece in 1919...It was used as an appointment desk in the foyer where Capone sat and kept the peace in the brothel...Capone used this table as his nightstand. The left leg of the nightstand brandished a gun strap and holster near the top utilizing a flaw in the table that can still be seen. He also had a pistol in the drawer and another that laid on the top of it...The table was given to Dorothy Schultz by Ralph `Bottles' Capone who managed some of Al's affairs...Dorothy later married Charles Elliott...This piece was bequeathed by Mr. Elliott to his grandson who recently sold these artifacts...". Signed by the recipient of the table, Elliott's grandson Paul West. The same grandson obtained a barber shop chair used by Capone which was subsequently sold by Remember When Auctions several years ago for in excess of $25,000. A great opportunity to obtain a functional Capone relic!$2,000-3,000
