Large sheaf of diverse documents, letters, reports, assessments, claims, bill of lading, bill of sale, and unique Proof of Labor statements, indicating the sale of mining claims in the state. This is an eclectic group, including mining sale agreements, private letters, freight and steamer transport bills, and others. Several have notary seals attached or embossed, indicating an official transaction. Many of these are hand written and signed, quite unique. Nome was the site of gold discovery in 1898, and a huge rush ensued, second only to California and the Klondike. The Cape Nome Mining District became known, and someone thought to pan the red and black streaked beach sands. More than 1 million dollars in gold was subsequently taken from these sand. All documents show age wear, but are overall in very good to excellent condition. HKA#62320
