This lot contains three newspaper sections celebrating the Klondike gold discovery. The papers date from 1897 (The Seattle Post-Intelligencer). This 9 o’clock edition offers the latest news from the Klondike and reports that 68 rich men are on the steamer Portland which also carries "Stacks of Yellow Metal!" Also in the lot is another edition of the Intelligencer, reporting on the opening Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition at which 90,000 people showed up. The third paper is The Klondike News out of Dawson, Northwest Territory dated April 1st 1898. This edition features a story on what is reported to be the largest gold nugget discovered by George W. Carmack. Papers are all very readable, but obviously yellowing with age.this is a nice record of the events of the time.
