[American Numismatic Society] Boston Numismatic Society. AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NUMISMATICS. Vol. XXVIII, Nos. 1-4, complete. Boston, 1893-94. 108, iv pages; 6 plates. [bound with] Boston Numismatic Society. AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NUMISMATICS. Vol. XXXIX, Nos. 1-4, complete. Boston, 1904-05. 120, iv pages; 5 plates. [bound with] Boston Numismatic Society. AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NUMISMATICS. Vol. XL, Nos. 1-2. Boston, 1905. 56 pages; 2 plates. 4to, later green pebbled cloth, gilt, meant to match the Wayte Raymond binding used in some of the present offering; original printed wraps bound in. First plate of Vol. XXVIII torn and taped; some wraps with tears. Very good or better. An oddball volume, bringing together Volume XXVIII, XXXIX and the first half of Volume XL. While having 39 follow 28 can easily be understood as an organizational error, one wonders about splitting Volume XL over two bound volumes. Regardless of the reason, that's what's here. Volume XXVIII includes extensive commentary on modern medals. Volume XXXIX includes Frank Sherman Benson's ongoing work on ancient Greek coins, R.W. McLachlin on the Monreal medal and Howland Wood on Siam. Ex Rochester Numismatic Association.
