[Noe, Sydney P.] INDEX BY AUTHOR AND SUBJECT TO THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NUMISMATICS, VOLUMES 1-50, (1868-1916) AND TO THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE AMERICAN NUMISMATIC SOCIETY. First separate edition. New York: Reprinted from the American Journal of Numismatics, Volume LI, 1918. 4to, original printed card covers. (2), ii, 48 pages. 4to, later green pebbled cloth, gilt; original printed wraps bound in. Fine. The first part of Volume LIII includes three classic works on state copper coinage: "The State Coinage of Connecticut," by Henry C. Miller, "The Colonial Coins of Vermont," by Hillyer Ryder, and "The Copper Coins of Massachusetts," also by Ryder. The version present in this volume is the separately bound offprint and includes the Additions and Corrections. All three monographs instantly became standard works, and their numbering systems remain in use today. The second and third parts include important numismatic contributions by Edward T. Newell and Agnes Baldwin Brett. The Index is an indispensable aid, and is one of a small number of copies issued separately. Noe wrote in the foreword: "The need for an index to The American Journal of Numismatics has long been felt. The present work was undertaken to supply this need in the Library of the American Numismatic Society. The Index is the outcome of the usefulness demonstrated there, and is the result of much careful thought." Very scarce, especially in nice condition. Ex Rochester Numismatic Association.
