AFSHINID: Siyar Ibn 'Abd Allah (892-893), AE Fals (3.28g), Usrushana (Surushana), AH 279. Citing Siyar in reverse, without any Samanid or other overlord. A-1477U. Choice very fine, probably the nicest example appearing in auction. Extremely rare.

One of the rarest dynasties of Islamic coinage, the Afshinid dynasty only appears once in this coin, dated AH 279 in Usrushana. The fals does not mention any overlord, which is sufficient enough to consider the Afshinids an independent dynasty. This is an instance where Islamic numismatics serve as primary documents to obscure periods in Islamic history.

Seldom appearing in any auction, one of the past examples, in lower and much less attractive condition, sold in Morton & Eden's 2013 November auction (lot 676) for 260 GBP.
