(1767 - 1848) Sixth President of the United States, Secretary of State under Monroe who principally formulated the Monroe Doctrine. Two pieces including an a partly-printed A.D. (unsigned) filled out in his hand, 1p. oblong 4to., Suffolk, County Mass., July 14, 1792 a summons ordering an attachment of twenty ponds against ""...John M Goof now resident at Boston in our Said County, mariner..."" Together with an A.D. (unsigned) 1p. oblong 8vo., [n.p., n.d.] a draft of a legal motion with numerous corrections which reads in part: ""...the Said Epharam Alfred being called upon his recognizance answered and providing the copy of the whole process and of all writing filed before the Justice according to the Law... the court order his default to be noted upon the record..."" Both pieces bearing light soiling and a few marginal chips, otherwise very good.
