(38.1 x 30.5 cm) 1994 PROVENANCE Robert Miller Gallery, NEW YORK Private Collection LITERATURE Eugenia Parry, ADAM FUSS, Santa Fe, 1997, cover and pls. 2 and 57 (variants illustrated) In 1994, Adam Fuss created a series of works involving eggs, birds, and ladders, some of which were shown at the Laura Carpenter Gallery in Santa Fe. An extremely rare example from that group, the present lot offers a highly reflective paper and a custom wooden frame that was quickly abandoned for a gray wooden-strip frame due to cost. As Eugenia Parry writes in her essay for Fuss' monograph, "The birds in the photograms extend fine, barely perceptible ladder forms into space. The ladder, a lifeline, is a signal to ascend above the tops of our heads to the glorious spaces 'in between' earth and heaven" (Parry, p. 28).
