Presented here is an original typed and signed Atlantic Records inter-office memo dated November 17, 1980, from Perry Cooper, Director of Artist Relations, to Stu Ginsburg, with a copy sent to Joann Toker. The subject of the memo is AC/DC, and it requests a full list of all RIAA-certified and “uncertified” gold and platinum albums the band had earned to that date. Cooper notes that the gold Highway to Hell LPs need not be included, humorously remarking that virtually everyone in the world was given one by the band. The memo is signed by Cooper and marked “dictated/not read,” offering a unique glimpse into Atlantic Records’ internal tracking of AC/DC’s meteoric success at the dawn of the 1980s.
