(ABRAHAM LINCOLN ASSASSINATION)
A.L.S. of Mrs. Charles Sabin Taft, wife of the physician who jumped into service at Ford's Theatre during Lincoln's assassination, 4pp. 8vo., New York, May 9, 1902, to Miss Halliday, in part: "...Your letter only reached me a few days ago...private secretary...John Hay, who is now Sec. of State, I don't remember who was Andrew Johnson's, but can find out for you. If you would like to have a Mount Vernon paper with the story of the last house of Lincoln, written by Dr. Taft, let me know...I have quite a relic the cuff button that Lincoln had on the night of the assassination. Dr. [Taft] was present at the autopsy next day at the White House, and brought home a lock of Mr. Lincoln's hair...I was in the theatre, with my husband, on that fatal night...". Torn at top with a bit of loss of text, otherwise very good.

Estimate: $75 - 100.
