ABBASID: Abu Ja'far Harun Al-Rashid (786-809), AR Dirham (2.31g), Abra Shahr (Abarshahr), AH 192. Beautiful chain border, alternative mint name Naysabur interestingly mentioned in upper reverse field, lower field citing governor Nasr Ibn Sa'ad. A-219.2a for type only, otherwise unpublished variety. Very fine to extremely fine. Unpublished variety, of the highest rarity.

Abra Shahr, also known as Abarshahr, literally translates to the "city of clouds", which is an alternative name for Naysabur (Nishapur).

The obverse border features a highly attractive chain style, similar to the highly rare Umayyad dirhams of Al-Mubaraka AH 107, fetching thousands of dollars. This one is, however, unpublished and unrecorded. There appears to be no other examples of this type in past auction records nor on the Zeno database, making this a highly desirable unique piece and possibly the only specimen known.
