ABBASID: AE fals (2.12g), Amul, ND, A-U317, citing Muhammad as the son of the caliph, i.e., the future caliph al-Mahdi (775-785), with the name Muhammad below // 2nd half of the kalima; struck at the city of Amul in Central Asia, on the Oxus River southwest of Bukhara, the second known example (the first was sold in our Auction 38, Lot 207), F-VF, RRR. The style is Central Asian, very similar to a fals of Bukhara dated AH151, within the time of al-Mahdi as heir apparent (AH142-158), very different from Abbasid fulus of the similarly named city of Amul in Tabaristan.
