AARON BURR (1756-1836). Third Vice-President of the United States (1801-05) under Jefferson, with whom he had been tied in the presidential election of 1800. Partly printed DS “A. Burr,” a check drawn on the Manhattan Company, NY, Mar 28, 1800. Payable to James Miles in the amount of $194. Boldly signed. Slit cancellation barely touching signature of no affect; ink cancellation well away from signature; o/w VG/Fine. Attractive. After being defeated through the efforts of Alexander Hamilton, Burr later killed the first US secretary of treasury in a duel. His reputation further unraveled following his alleged —though unproved—treasonous activity in the “Burr Conspiracy.”
