AA Book Signed by Bill Wilson 1966
“Winners will be notified after the auction ends and once all bids have been processed to determine the winner for each lot”
Rare and special leather bound edition of ''Alcoholics Anonymous,'' given by AA founder Bill Wilson to the man he sponsored, Chuck Gibian. Also included is a fourth edition draft of Gibian's story of alcoholism and sobriety that was to be included in the updated ''Big Book,'' as requested by Wilson, though never used. An airline pilot, Gibian was one of the founding members of ''Birds of a Feather,'' the AA group for pilots, and his BOAF pin is also included with this lot. Gibian also represented airline pilots in the 1976 U.S. Senate Investigation Committee, and helped Betty Ford with her recovery. Inscription by Bill Wilson in this 1965 second edition, seventh printing of ''Alcoholics Anonymous'' reads in full, ''Dear Chuck - Lois joins me in all affection and in confident faith that the years to come will be your finest! Ever, Bill / Slipping Stones / Jan. 15/66''. With a note beneath Wilson's signature in his wife's hand, ''Heaps of Love, Lois''. Inscription appears on verso of front free endpaper. This incredibly rare book is only one of three such navy blue leather books, not available to the public and given by Bill Wilson personally. The other two were given to retiring GSOs Bruce M. and Austin MacCormick, and reside in the Akron, Ohio and New York AA archives, respectively. These two books have the trustees' names printed under the title page, whereas this copy does not. All three were ordered from Cornwall Press and inscribed by Bill Wilson. A beautiful copy with gilt titling to backstrip, book measures 5.75'' x 8.25'' and is in fine condition.
