AA Book Signed by Bill Wilson 1966
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Exceptionally rare, historical item from Alcoholics Anonymous: a specially ordered leatherbound edition of ''The Big Book,'' signed and inscribed by AA co-founder Bill Wilson to the man he sponsored, Chuck Gibian. 1965 second edition, seventh printing of ''Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than Two Thousand Men and Women Have Recovered from Alcoholism.'' This special edition, ordered specifically by Wilson, is published by Cornwall Press Inc. and not available to the general public. Inscription on verso of front free endpaper reads: ''Dear Chuck - Lois joins me in all affection and in confident faith that the years to come will be your finest! Ever, Bill / Slipping Stones / Jan. 15/66''. With a note beneath Wilson's signature in his wife's hand, ''Heaps of Love, Lois''. An airline pilot, Chuck Gibian flew to Akron, Ohio in 1964 after years of failed attempts at sobriety on his own. He completed his 4th step in Bill Wilson's office (actually a shack in the back of his home) where Wilson wrote the definitive ''Big Book.'' With Bill's friendship and mentorship, Chuck Gibian finally succeeded in staying sober and went on to help Betty Ford through her sobriety as well as represent airline pilots struggling with alcoholism in front of a U.S. Senate committee in 1976. This navy blue leather edition of AA is, again, only available by special order from Cornwall Press, with sometimes less than one being ordered every year, usually for retiring AA trustees and GSO members. A beautiful copy with gilt titling to backstrip. Book measures 5.75'' x 8.25'' and is in fine condition.
