A wood netsuke of two fish.
By Toman, Tokyo, Late 18th/early 19th cent , Late 18th / early 19th century. A Fugu and an Aji, resting together head to tail. The two fish are nicely stained with the distended belly of the Fugu left unstained for effect. Signed on the underside with kakihan without reserve, Toman. 2 1/8in (5.5cm). Provenance: Ex Richards collection. Purchased from R. Koscherak, 1957. Illustrated in the article by Jay Hopkins in the INSJ (Volume 31, no.3). Exhibited: Delgado Museum, New Orleans, LA (March-April, 1960)
