A wood netsuke of a tree trunk form ash bowl.
Attributed to Kaigyokusai Masatsugu, Osaka, , Mid 19th century. In the shape of a truncated tree trunk, the top concave with striations, the bottom with a himotoshi in the center and a sunburst pattern of engraved lines radiating outwards. The kaki wood has been stained almost black but traces of a lighter golden vein can be seen on one side. Signed on side, Kaigyokusai, plus a square seal, Masatsugu, in double reserve. 1 1/8in (2.8cm).
