Coiling upon itself to form a compact rectangular pyramid, the scales are carved in high relief and the scaly skin is irregularly stained to imitate the changing snakeskin colors, the eye pupils inlaid in dark horn, the himotoshi formed by natural openings. Signed in a raised oval reserve, Masano. 7/8in (2.2cm). Provenance: Sotheby's, New York, September 21, 1983.
