A very rare Qing dynasty Chinese leather bow case with brass mounts. Made for a Chinese composite bow. The applied design shows a dragon or mythical animal with an open mouth and protruding tongue. The eyes can be seen on either side ofthe red piece of fabric. The five brass bats around the central boss represent longevity and the five blessings. The large brass ring was used as an attachment for a sword. Blue silk liner inside. 18th-19th century. Worn condition,losses to applied leather decoration, stitching loose on side and part of silk liner missing. Cracks and some warping throughout. Measures 24” long and 15” wide at the top.
