A very rare Large format ARMY BILL from the WAR of 1812-1815. An ARMY BILL from the final Quebec Issue of 1815, $10 (50 shillings). No. 5561. PMG VF-20. The Bill reads: 'ARMY Bill Office Quebec, January, 1815. Ten Dollars Redeemable at this office, by Government Bill of Exchange on London, at Thirty Days Sight, by order of the Commander of the Forces.' (Signed in ink) L. Montizambert. Louis Montizambert in the late 1700's was a volounteer in the Canadian Militia and later in life served as an aid to Lord Dalhousie, (George Ramsey, 1770-1838), Governor General of Canada. Accompanied by a hand written letter from Oct.6, 1925, tracing the pedigree of the Bill. Very fine condition, an unusually high grade example of a very rare early form of Canadian Paper money. Most known Army Bills are the small format type from the 1814 issue. Other than notes in institutions, like the National Currency Collection, We have recorded only two other examples. A Very Fine (sold in 2005) and a low grade example, (VG or so). Of the highest rarity! Worth a premium bid.
