A rare set of six unrecorded Derby porcelain
A rare set of six unrecorded Derby porcelain dinner plates, circa 1795-1800, each enamelled with titled landscape scenes, enclosed within a gilt border before a radiating oval gilt and banded roundel design, below a gilt scrollwork border and wrythen moulded rim painted with a green and crimson leaf border pattern and dentil gilt rim, blue enamelled crown and cross batons mark and no '148' with named scenes in blue script, no gilders numerals, some rubbing to gilding and wear, one slight rim chip diameter 24cm, 9 1/4 inches. (6) Footnote:- It can be noted these plates are identical in design to that of the important Chatsworth dessert service which was presented to the 9th Duke of Devonshire by King George V and Queen Mary in 1935. Pattern number 148 was one of the most expensive patterns produced by the Derby factory and it has been suggested that only two or three services of this pattern were ever made. The landscapes are inscribed with one Derbyshire view entitled "On the River Trent, Derbyshire". The other scenes include "View in Bury Street, Edmonton", "View near Epsom, Surrey", "Near Llantrant, Denbighshire", "View in Windsor Forest" and "Near Southampton". Artist attributions include John Brewer and George Robertson. See Illustration and Back Cover. £2800-3500
