A rare marked Ralph Wedgwood or Ferrybridge meat dish, printed in blue with a central classical scene featuring a bull, two winged goddesses and a seated man with staff, all within the usual border with eagle, acanthus scrolls, and pairs of putti or cherubs, length 46.4cm, impressed mark "WEDGWOOD", circa 1795-1810 (potting faults on rim and face, small chips to rim)
See FOB8 for this scene and others reproduced from the Ferrybridge shape and pattern book, also Coysh 2/35, FOB4 and True Blue, case34/4, for other patterns from the series; marked examples usually refer to Ferrybridge or Wedgwood & Co., the simple Wedgwood mark on this example is unusual and could possibly refer to Ralph Wedgwood alone, before or after his association with the pottery at Ferrybridge
