A rare and fine Diplomatic Garment
1 uniform Jacket from the collection of Elizabeth Hughes
This Jacket and another one in this auction came from the collection of the late Elizabeth Hughes, the co-author of the Big Book of Buttons. Johnson Frazier has given us a description of these to the best of his knowledge and he is quoted to say "I would like to think they are from the mid 19th century, they are highly stylized with gold and silver thread, custom cut and expertly tailored. I would love to say they are American, but I cant. Perhaps European or English. I think I would say they are the finest costumes of Diplomatic Attire available at this auction, or any auction, despite the lack of provenance." These jackets were given to Elizabeth Hughes without buttons and Johnson commented that it would have been easier for him to give more detail if even one of the buttons had still been retained on the garment. Regardless, as Johnson has stated they are extremely fine. This is a wonderful opportunity to own a piece of history in relatively excellent condition despite their age.
