A rare Scottish silver mounted 12 bore flintlock single barrel sporting gun, in mid European fashion. By William Heriot of Edinburgh. Circa 1760. The browned two-stage silver sighted twist barrel inlaid with silver lines at the octagonal breech (gold breech stamps missing), platinum touch hole, silver spider fore-site, walnut half stock with silver butt plate, engraved barrel retaining loop, trigger guard, a large silver escutcheon engraved with the coat of arms of Kennedy. The silver side plate engraved with mounted battle scene. Silver ramrod pipes and ramrod tip, some corrosion on barrel; the engraved flat beveled lock with stepped tail and moulded border signed W.HERIOT 44in. barrel £2,000-3,000 See Illustration.
