By Teiji. Tokyo, Mid 19th century. Kneeling the skirt finished in a bluish-green glaze, portions of the arms have been left unglazed, the fan lacquered silver, the upper portions of the gown are a brightly hued combination of white, yellow, blue, green, and red glazes and the shock of cascading red hair has been applied in lacquer. Signed on the back on a white ceramic tablet with overglaze brown border and characters, Teiji. The somewhat scarce Tokyo potter turned lacquerer who combined both arts in his unique pieces. 1 1/2in (3.7cm). Provenance: Christie's, So. Kensington, London
