A pair of gilt bronze supporting figures, probably Venetian, 17th century, cast as a pair of caryatid figures holding cushions on their heads, on shell and swirl bases, lacking candle sconces, and with modern red wood bases, 9.5ins high Each figure has one side lacking any noticeable modelling and with two small plugs in that side. This could indicate that they were supporting figures for a clock or other object. The shell cast bases could also be associated as the figures stand on patches set into the bases, yet the gilding seems to match both base and figure. More recently they have been used as table lamps with electric fittings now removed and candle nozzles lacking. £800-1,200
