A pair of dessert plates made for the Spanish or Cuban market by William Adams of Tunstall, printed in mulberry with a battle scene titled "Espanoles Sorprendidos por los Moros al Recoger un Companero Herido" from the "Victorias Espanolas en Marruecos" series, within a geometric border featuring coats-of-arms and portrait reserves of "El Marischal O'Donnell", "El General Prim" and "El General Echague", diameter 21.7cm, printed marks, circa 1860-70 (one with very small rim chip) The subject depicted relates to the Moroccan war of 1859-60; the series title translates to "Spanish victories in Morocco" and the scene in this case is "Spaniards surprised by Moors while picking up a wounded comrade" (see illustration) £50-80
