A late 19th century album of photographs, circa 1888 - 1892, (Vol 6), collected by Captain Edmund Bourke, R.N., on the HMS Hyacinth, comprising 84 pages with 169 plates, depicting scenes of New Zealand and the Cook Islands, mostly Rarotonga, its people, villages, towns and landscapes, together with photographs of the ships, HMS Hyacinth, and HMS Cormorant, the petty officers and the crew at work and at play in polo and cricket matches, with a handwritten catalogue of the plates by Captain Bourke, dated 3.12.1911. 17ins x 13ins (overall) Note: In 1888 parts of the Cook Islands were declared under British protection by Capt Bourke, of the HMS Hyacinth. £300-500
