A late 17th century Mortlake tapestry depicting Lysander in the embrace of Hero, Goddess of Love possibly representing conquered Athens. In a summer landscape the Hellespont flows under a bridge; in fortified ruins three blacksmiths repair armour, nearby a fountain cascades and in the foreground, two putti herald Lysanders return from Battle and a cherub sits astride the Warrior's discarded breastplate and sword. The tapestry has a gold and green banded border and is lined with linen, 6ft 1in x 11ft (restoration, probably reduced in size) (see illustration) £7-10000
