A large plated teapot from the "Lord of the Isles" paddle steamer, of conical form with hinged cover and button knop, engraved with stylised flower and leaf bands around the body and cover, one side also engraved with the badge featuring a pennant surrounded by a belt inscribed "Lord of the Isles" with thistles at the base and Prince of Wales' feathers above, overall height 20.3cm, manufacturer's mark M.H. & Co.The "Lord of the Isles" was widely regarded as one of the finest saloon paddle steamers on the Clyde during its Victorian heyday. It was built in 1877 for the Glasgow & Inveraray Steamboat Company for their summer tourist trade and was an instant success with the travelling public. Fast and luxuriously appointed, she ran for fourteen seasons before being sold for service on the Thames. Equally popular on her new run, she eventually returned to the Clyde in 1903 but proved too old for further service and was finally scrapped in 1904(see illustration)
