A kaki wood netsuke of an ox.
By Tanaka Minko (1735-1816), Tsu, Mid 18th century. Recumbent with legs tucked under and the tail lying along its left side, eyes inlaid in brass with black pupils, the nostrils are colored red, well-worn and the right side shows a wide swath of the outer brown part of the kaki wood. Signed on the underside of the right rear haunch, Minko, plus kakihan, colored red. 2in (5.1cm). Provenance: Ex Scott Meredith collection.
