The first, in ivory, depiction of the story of Ono no Tofu, the 9th Century calligraphist, the anthropomorphic figure of a Frog in court dress holding a folded Umbrella represents the virtue of perseverance. 2 7/8in (7.3cm). The second, in wood, Kikujido, the chrysanthemum boy, sitting with his left hand holding a chrysanthemum stem and blossom, he is also surrounded by a multitude of blossoms, eyes inlaid in black. 2 1/8in (5.4cm).
