Attributed to Ryuchin Gyokuhosai, Tokyo, Mid 19th century. , Mid 19th century. The first, manju of truncated oval form showing a number of the takaramono, or precious objects, including mallet, treasure sack, cloak of invisibility (kakuremino), hat of invisibility (kakuragasa), treasure pearl (hoju), scrolls, fundo, and shippo. Signed within an irregular reserve, Ryuchin. 1in (2.5cm). The second, negoro lacquer netsuke of Kokuji grasping a coral branch, the body of the islander has been left black and overlaid with silver lacquer; the eyes and the loin cloth are gold lacquer. Signed on underside before lacquer applied and is very faint, first and third identifiable, 2nd may by ho. 2in (5.2cm). Provenance: The second, Ex Scott Meredith collection.
