Mid 19th century. The first, a painted wood Bugaku mask of Chujo in wood painted in black, white and red, with a tama-shaped urna on the forehead, loop attachment at the back. 2 3/8in (6cm). The second,buffalo horn Sambaso Mask of Kokushiki-Jo with silver details and bar attachment, simulated jaw hinge. 1 3/4in (4.4cm). Provenance: Both, Ex M.T.
