The first, early 19th century, an Oni wailing in anguish as he attempts to retrieve the arm of the Rashomon demon, eyes inlaid in black, body hair well-etched, lightly worn with a good patina. 1in (2.5cm). The second, mid 19th century, the Chinese sages Hu Yeo (Kioyu) at a waterfall washing his ears while and Ch'ao Fu (Sofu) leading his ox away from the contaminated water. At the himotoshi on the base the ivory has been polished to show both the center ivory and the outer rind. 1 1/2in (3.9cm).
