A group of two ivory manju.
Attributed to Kikugawa, Tokyo, Mid 19th century. , Mid 19th century. The first, square form executed in cavo-relievo work of an Onna Daruma, the reverse shows a hossu and is signed, Kikugawa. 3.4cm (1 1/3"). The second, a two-piece manju showing a boy carved in deep relief, sitting and beating on a drum with sticks in both hands, the boy's mouth in inlaid in red and the bosses around both rims of the drum are inlaid in black. Signed on an inlaid green stone tablet, Kikugawa. 4.1cm (1 5/8"). 1 3/8in (3.4cm). Provenance: The first, Purchased in Tokyo, 1951. The second, Ex Scott Meredith collection.
