Tokyo, Mid 19th century. , Mid 19th century. The first, ivory depicting Oni carrying barrel on back. The Tomoye on both ends of the drum and the bosses around the end strips are inlaid in tortoise-shell. Inscribed in wavy reserve, Shugyoku. 1in (2.5cm). The second, attributed to(or school of) Tomochika, Corozo nut (Tagua) depicting a puppy, eyes inlaid in black. Signed on the rear in an irregular boat-shaped reserve, Tomochika. Purchased from Ray Bushell who designated the artist as Tomochika. 1?in (3cm). The third, attributed to Tomochika 3rd, ivory depicting a carpenters plane, lightly stained and carved to resemble bone, missing the blade which is usually in ebony. Signed without reserve, Tomochika. 1?in (4.5cm). Provenance: The first, Purchased from R. Koscherak, 1951. The second, Purchased from Raymond Bushell 1960.
