A group of three metal netsuke.
Early/mid 19th century. The first, in brass and steel, a combination Hidokei and Hobari, the hinged brass case is engraved with a design of vines and leaves, The steel dials are glass-covered. 1 1/2in (3.7cm). The second, in brass, a portable flint and steel lighter(hyuchi), case engraved with a simple design of a thatched hut in the mountains, the inside mechanism is of steel. 1 3/8in (3.5cm). The third, a cube shaped compass, with black and gold lacquer lattice design, inlaid glass covered metal roundels on all six sides, the top a compass, the bottom has a lacquer kiku-mon through which the cord emerges. 1 3/8in (3.3cm).
