The first, late 18th century, a tsuishi lacquer Cicada, the veining on the wings well delineated and large himotoshi on the underside of unequal size. 2 1/4in (5.8cm). The second, mid 18th century, an ivory piece with two octopi, the eyes of both inlaid with dark horn, dressed in elaborate clothing. 1 7/8in (4.6cm). The third, mid 19th century, a wood dragonfly on bean pods, delicate veining on the wings. 2in (5cm). Provenance: The first, Purchased from Raymond Bushell 1957.
