A framed Coptic textile fragment,Roman Egypt, c. 3rd - 4th Century AD, with a medallion, at center a seated man offers an uncertain object to a bear-like animal which sits across, a fish above. Around them are decorative bands consisting of floral motives and red ovals containing various animals, a geometric fringe around the exterior. A lovely embroidered element from a tunic or similar with vivid red and black against a crème ground. Textile measures 5 7/8 in x 5 3/4 in (14.9 x 14.7 cm). Entire frame measures 101/4 in x 10 3/4 in (26 x 27.2 cm). Ex Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
