A finely constructed large wall display in the form of a shield measuring approx. 42” x 42” with background of rich red color fabric and bright gold leaf border trim topped by a 38” spread wing gold leaf Imperial eagle. The display consists offour swords of different sizes placed horizontally with the sword and its scabbard mounted crossing to for an “X”; each is a variation of the Model 1889 Prussian Officer’s sword, noted for its beautiful deep relief casting of the ImperialEagle holding a sword and a scepter on the guard and the unusual angle of the upper portion of the grip. The variations shown are: 1. a full size regulation model by famous German maker Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co.; 2. A ¾ scale Kindersable(child’s sword) with real fish skin grip cover and etched blade; 3. A 1/3 scale salesman’s sample with elaborate decoration and 4. A ¼ scale miniature, probably originally manufactured as a souvenir or letter opener; formerly in the Swords of the Americas Collection of George E. Weatherly. Est.: $1,500-$3,000.
