A extra-deluxe Sharps patent pepperbox derringer by Tipping & Lawden. .30 caliber rimfire, short frame. Serial number “295”. Elaborately English style scroll-engraved, with matching engraved metal grips in English-style case. The barrels show approximately 40 to 60% original blue, evenly drifting to patina. The frame shows 80 to 90% original silver, just thinning at the edges. The grips are heavy brass or bronze castings, and show 40 to 60% thinning original silver, with patina to the brass where drifted. This exhibition quality derringer is the only specimen known to this cataloger with this type extra-fancy engraved grips that are even engraved on their bottoms. The condition is very good + overall, with sharp markings, tight action, and very good interior. The derringer is contained in an original blue felt-lined partition style case, with original blued steel cleaning rod. Two original compartment covers are retained, and one compartment contains an original, almost miniature-sized screwdriver. The case is in good to very good condition, with some slight wear at contact points, minor fraying and fading, normal aging. The exterior of the case is veneered walnut and remains good with minor warping, scratches, marks, and normal aging. One of the rarest and best in Tipping & Lawden series. From the Tom Seymour Collection. Est.: $3,500 - $7,000.
