A double barrel 12 bore thumb hole action hammer gun, no.8261 by James Purdey the re blued barrels signed on the top rib J Purdey and son Audley House, South Audley Street, London, engraved back action locks, well figured walnut stock, chequered straight grip and fore-end. The escutcheon engraved with E surmounted by a royal crown, black powder proof, out of proof action and fore-end only. The makers confirm that they were built in 1870 as a pair for W. Rennie Esq.
