1 tall Medium size 17th century real SMUGGLERS button. This button is truly incredible and is detailed in its enamel on the top along with beautiful cabochon jewels and turquoise stones. Buttons like this is handmade and gilded silver. These buttons open up to a cylindrical compartment when the center stone that is used to tighten the barrel to the top. They were used to smuggle diamonds and possibly drugs in the 17th century. Similar examples are show in Diana Epstein and Millicent Safro's beautiful colored button book.
