20 Small/Medium size assorted subject matter Damascenes. These Vintage and modern examples found on this card represent a variety of shapes, patterns and pictorials all in the Japanese technique of Damascene. Damascene was originally developed in Syria over 1500 years ago but buttons were not made in this technique until the late 1800's and then in the 20th century in Japan as well as in The United States with the studio example we find by Mario Ballesteros. The examples on this card all date to the early part to mid part of the 20th century and include no studio.
