A beautiful marble head of an enraptured Venus, c. 2nd Century AD, likely once part of a paired statue with Pan, the goddess of love’s head tilted slightly back and to the left in an expression of pure delight, her eyes looking upwards, her lips in full bloom, and her hair trailing down her back. The neck with the telltale rings of Venus. Height of head alone: 4 ¾” (12.2 cm), mounted on stand: 10 3/8 in (26.5 cm). A few minor nicks and such, light deposits. A truly delightful piece! Ex Estate of Hope N. Efron, Washington DC. Appraised by Evang. M. Vitali-E. Kazarossian, Pandrossou, Athens on July 6, 1964. Efron worked as an economist at the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. She received special commendations for her volunteer work with the American Councils for International Education and Youth for Understanding.
